Nuevo Tingo - Leimebamba (22/10/2010) | 57 km parcourus |
Buenas noches !
Nuevo Tingo - Leimebamba (10/22/2010) | 57 km cycled |
We thank our hosts of the (very) nice hotel where we could camp for free. This morning a couple arrives in this hotel and we find out that they are Belgians (from Brussels) too. This standing hotel seems to work only for groups or touring-tourists, so our Belgian friends make a tour in Peru and stay here a night to go see the Kuelap-ruins. (We haven't gone to see them, as for us it was a detour of 37 kms of climbing). They just made a bus-trip by night from Chiclayo and were somehow tired, but funny anyway to meet some compatriots here.
We continue our route, along the river in the valley.
Beautiful morning cycling |
Except of the mosquito's, this is a very beautiful region of Peru that I appreciate a lot. 3 years ago we past the Ecuador-Peru border in Macara and went to Trujillo via the coast (which is very deserted), but the road we take this time via the border of La Balsa (=oriental) is more recommendable. But again, not much tourists here, as this region is not very accessible (with the slow transport on the dirt-roads that leads to here).
But for cyclists or cycling-tours, this region is a real recommender.
I like these tropical flowers |
Also the cows have it hot |
After 40 kms following the river in the valley, we arrive in Leimebamba where we have lunch (which we need to start to climb in the afternoon). In this little village we meet again some young people from Europe (2 Spanish & 1 Irish), not cycling, but making a school project in this village.
In the afternoon we only make 17 kms more, as we climb quickly.
Climbing... |
Only 7 kms done and we are already very high (Leimebamba is down there) |
It's still very hot here, but the more we climb, the more we hope it to be cooler and get rid of the mosquito’s near the river.
